My Approach
We have potential for immense resilience and wisdom.
We are not, however, built to face all of life’s challenges on our own. There are times in life when we find ourselves lost, stuck and unsure of how to move forward. I offer to walk alongside you for this part of your journey, help you discover strength, see a clearer path, and find your footing. Together we can begin to make sense of why certain issues may be arising, what isn’t working anymore and new ways of coping and responding to the challenges you face.
Evidence based treatment.
Every client is different and I have a unique relationship and approach based on individual needs and preferences. I am, however, always inclined to rely on evidence-based treatments for presenting issues. I am well versed in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Somatic, Narrative and Solution-Focused Approaches, Motivational Interviewing, amongst others.
The relationship we share matters.
It is the space where change and growth is nurtured. Research tells us that one of the most important factors in successful therapy is the quality of the client-therapist relationship. My work with clients is relational, meaning the relationship in itself is part of the therapeutic process. Like in all healthy relationships – authenticity, honesty, warmth and humour are essential in my work with clients.
Non-judgment.
Non-judgment is an ethical principle I live by, both personally and professionally. I am also an imperfect person who has faced the struggles of life, imperfectly. We have all found your own ways of adapting to and surviving life’s challenges. Even the most “dysfunctional” behaviours often serve a function for us or have helped us cope in the past. Therapy can help us figure out why we are repeating patterns that are no longer helpful and to figure out new ways of being and coping.
